Dinner and Lecture by Professor Melissa Terras at the University Women’s Club

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We hope you all enjoyed the festive season and managed to curl up by the fire to read a good book or two.

We are delighted to announce that tickets are now on sale for our annual after-dinner lecture which will be held at the University Women’s Club, 2 Audley Square, Mayfair.

Our speaker will be Professor Melissa Terras, who is the Professor of Digital Cultural Heritage at the University of Edinburgh’s College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

Professor Terras will be speaking about the subject of her 2018 book, entitled ‘Picture-Book Professors: Academia and Children’s Literature’ which surveys the publishing history and role of academics in children’s literature, questioning the book culture which promotes the enforcement of stereotypes.

It seemed only apt to host this dinner and lecture at the University Women’s Club which was established by Gertrude Jackson in 1886 to ‘afford facilities of intercourse for Women educated at the Universities’.

This event will be held on the 29th January and will begin at 7pm, for dinner at 7:15pm. Tickets will cost £48 and include a three course meal with wine, followed by the lecture by Professor Terras from 9-10pm.

To purchase a ticket, please send £48 via PayPal to: uolbibliophilessoc@gmail.com and please email any dietary requirements to the same address.

Due to the size of the room, we do not have a cap on numbers this year but you must purchase your ticket before Friday 24th January so that we can confirm numbers with the club.

We look forward to seeing you all there!
